Which Colors Work Together for Your Outfits? Here Are Some Tips!

How to Know Which Colors Work Together for Your Outfits

Whether you’re a teenager trying to explore color combos in your outfits or a mom who wants to dress your adorable kids a little bit better, you’ve come to the right place. In this article, we’ll give you several tips on how to know which colors work together in an outfit.

Go back to color wheel basics.

Remember the color wheel you learned in elementary? Besides telling you which colors to mix to create secondary colors like pink or violet, the color wheel shows you the basics of complementary colors. These colors look great when paired together, whether in interior design, art, or fashion. To choose complementary colors, simply pick two that are opposite of each other on the color wheel. For instance, blue and orange are across from each other. That’s why you look incredible when you pair an orange shirt with a blue pair of jeans.

Consider your eye color and skin tone.

Want another way to make your fashion ensemble stand out? Start with your eye color & skin tone. Go back to the color wheel—colors that match best are located next to your eye color. Say you have green eyes. Yellow or light blue outfits will pair perfectly since these colors are close to the green on the wheel. You can also play around with complementary colors. Does your kid have blue eyes? Don’t be afraid to buy gold or orange shirts for them..

For skin tone, keep this rule in mind: avoid wearing clothes that are too close to your skin tone. If you have a light complexion, go for clothes in darker colors as too much white, beige, or pastels can cause a washed-out effect that will not flatter you.

Start with neutral basics.

There’s a reason neutrals have become a huge fashion trend. They are easy to pull off—and they work well in most skin tones & eye colors. You can consider them fuss-free fashion combos whenever you’re unsure what colors go well together. So when in doubt, stick to a combination of core neutrals: black, gray, white, beige, and brown. They won’t let you down.

Have a go-to pair of blue jeans.

It’s hard to go wrong with a good pair of blue jeans. They tend to go well with any shirt or blouse color. The only exception is when the top is denim, as denim on denim can be difficult to pull off. But as a general rule, pairing blue jeans with almost all top colors is a reliable fashion move.
